The System Worked...er, The System Failed...Potentially

So DHS Secretary, Janet Napolitano, is confident that the "system worked" in foiling the terrorist's plan to blow up a Northwest Airline jet bound for the United States. At least that was her initial reaction. I guess she thought the better of it before she went on television to claim that the system failed, since a working system - in her estimation - is one that allows a terrorist to board a jet then hopes that the bomb he carried on board doesn't go off as planned.

But was it really a terrorist attack? Maybe not. According to White House press secretary, Robert Gibbs, this was only a "potential" attack. So...is a car crash where no one is hurt only a "potential" car crash? It looks like, using Gibbs' new definition, it's only an attack if someone is hurt or killed. It's only a matter of time until Gibbs makes fun of those who dare to criticize the policies of The One.

Is it time, now, to start really looking for the terrorists in our midst instead of hoping that banning Arrowhead water and small bottles of Clairol hair product will keep them out? Isn't it time to tell the whining CAIR, those redoubtable soldiers of Allah, to get ready for some serious profiling?

Do you think Mr. Hope-and-Change has the stones?

Like Screen Doors on a Submarine

After looking at some of the online video of various town hall meetings on health care this summer, my assessment of most politicians was given a healthy reinforcement. Most of them are just arrogant, useless, blood-sucking gladhanders who've forgotten why they were elected in the first place, and who only want to continue to receive congressional perquisites and salaries.

And we keep voting the morons in.

Will They Ever Stop Whining

An article in msnbc (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32782444/) explains how Muslims are uncomfortable about the 9-11 anniversary this year -- again. They fear "backlash", and this fear increases every 9-11.

They just need to move on.

We're expected to get past 9-11-01, right? It's in the past, right? Not all Muslims are terrorists, right? Okay, I am willing to accept this. But are we not supposed to be vigilant, or apprehensive, particularly after 6 imams are arrested (this is currently in civil litigation) in an airport after disrupting the passenger loading process of a jet in 2006? Oh, or maybe the small matter of four Muslims being arrested and charged for plotting to destroy JFK airport in 2007 is something I should "put behind" me.

So strident, frequent and predictable is the whining of the Muslim leadership that there was once a joke going around that "Muslim leaders fear backlash over tomorrow's terrorist attack." These followers of the great warrior prophet Mohammed should "cowboy up" and get past it themselves.

So, sorry about your "backlash" fears, people, but as Americans are constantly lectured about the reason for the 9-11 attacks: you brought this upon yourselves.

Well, It's Proven: Big Industry caused Global Warming

First, I have to admit I'm not a very good blogger. I usually let something seethe and ferment in my mind for days or weeks before writing my opinions. By then, the moment is passed. Okay, I've said it. Now I can go on.

A couple of weeks ago, I read an article online in either the San Francisco Chronicle or the NY Times about some research that showed global warming directly correlated to the Industrial Age in the 1850s. Something to do with measuring industrial age pollution against the rise in temperature - at least whatever this researcher considered the appropriate period to monitor for temperature changes.

So there you have it: cum hoc ergo propter hoc. From the first firing of the steam engine, big business doomed us.

Tut, tut, shhh...nothing else matters. The argument is over.

Racism Aeterna

I don't think racism will ever go away. Oh, it's not what you think; I believe that as a whole, America has largely erased its taint of slavery and racial discrimination. Of course, since I'm not black, there are those (liberals) who will say that I'm not allowed to have this opinion because I haven't "walked a mile" in the black person's shoes. Since these same people (liberals) deride conservative blacks (e.g. Justice Clarence Thomas, Dr. Walter Williams, Dr. Thomas Sowell) for saying similar things, I'm in a no win situation, so what do I care.

Obama's election to the most powerful office in the world should have confirmed America's transcendence of its racist past, but not to the liberal mind. As I listen to talk radio shows (yes, they are conservative talk shows), I often hear callers complaining that the criticism of Obama stems from the fact that he is a black man. Never mind that the Obama administration policies are introducing oppressive taxes in order to achieve "fairness". So the excuse is that if Obama fails as president it will be because he is black and wasn't given a chance.

When will the liberal lovers of racism be satisfied?

Apart from Obama there is justice Sonia Sotomayor, another race opportunist. Her comment that a wise Latina could make better decisions than a white male who doesn't have the Latina's rich experiences has a hint of racism itself, no? Of course, white males never have rich experiences, do they? What rich experiences what she talking about, the experience of making tortillas (isn't that what Latinas do), of raising large families (all white people have nannies and such to take care of their kids), of personal tragedy (no relative of a white person gets murdered or killed in a traffic accident)? I'm not clear on this.

Here's a shocker: when it comes to arriving at judicial rulings, I'd like to have a judge with a proven rich experience of reading comprehension and of understanding the Constitution of the United States.

And Sotomayor's decision in the Connecticut firefighters case; just because the black firefighters were not immediately eligible for promotion based on test results, does that invalidate the test? Oh yeah, I know, "disparate impact" and all that, sure, that needs to be considered. But should a black firefighter not have to know hose pressures and the behavior of combustible materials just like the white (and Hispanic) firefighters? When do standards apply? Whose "rich experiences" are implying that the test just might be to hard for the black man? Huh, whose?

Let me ask one more thing at the risk of being thought the worst kind of "racist" (but, heck, anyone who believes in standards is at risk of that term): Could it be that the black firefighters just didn't study hard enough?

If that's the case why didn't they think they had to?

Racism won't go away. Liberals won't allow it to leave. It gets them what they want and provides them with an eternal excuse.

That's how it is. Stop Complaining

I keep hearing how unfair it is that the media is so liberal and biased against conservatives and Republicans. I've heard it for years and I'm tired of hearing it. I know it's true and I get angry when the media - particularly the new media - distorts the truth or tries to destroy someone's reputation because of his or her conservative values (pick your conservative on this one).

Sure. It's true. The media is liberal, unfair, and untruthful. If you're complaining about it, stop and accept the reality.

Then get to work at fighting back.

Bowing and Scraping before Bullies

When Obama goes overseas or to other countries not overseas and apologizes for America and runs my country down in front of other world leaders he reminds me of a feckless child who hopes that by submitting himself to a bully that the bully won't beat him up.

One of two things will happen. Either the child will become a bully, too, or the bully - though happy with the homage - will still kick the kid's ass.

A Great Day to be an Extremist

Now that Obama's DHS secretary has labeled me an extremist in its memo to law enforcement agencies - yeah, that's what the report has done, no matter what Napolitano says - I feel strangely okay about it.

I'll be able to get away with anything I want because his wet-tissue administration won't "torture" me for information. I'm hoping in the list of interrogation techniques that he released to the enemy (which is potentially me now, I guess) that "speaking sharply" is one of those actions, or maybe a "sideways glance"?

Obama's such a wimp.
